Bayanzag, known as the Flaming Cliffs, is one of the ikonic landforms of the Gobi Desert. Bayanzag was introduced to the world, by American palaeontologist Roy Chapman Andrews, as a home for first-known fossil dinosaurs eggs in the early 20th century. An expedition, led by Andrews, made a remarkable discovery in the science of palaeontology excavating dinosaurs eggs and bones along with fossils of eutherian mammal that has been diverted in the Early Cretaceous. The glowing red cliffs under sunset made Andrews nickname the area as Flaming Cliffs.
Bayanzag is located in Omnogovi (South Gobi) province. It’s 100 km to the north from Dalanzadgad city, the capital of Omnogovi. The area is one of the tourist crowded places in Gobi Desert, and therefore locals sell souvenirs near the cliffs. Tourist Ger camps or authentic nomadic family Homestays are available to accommodate you.
