STATE DEPARTMENT STORE (IKH DELGUUR)
The Store, known as ikh delguur( big store) was first established in 1921 and it is a visitor attraction by itself. Here are the finest goods from all parts of the town packed into one building where high-end cashmere (the second floor), Erdenet carpet (the fourth floor), and various souvenirs, traditional clothing, and books about Mongolia are found (the sixth floor).

Another fascinating urban space in nomadic Mongolia would be the Narantuul market in Ulaanbaatar. The narantuul market is the biggest market in the country and somehow nicknamed as the ‘black market’. The term “Black market” could be originated during Mongolia’s communist regime when private trading was prohibited when the market was located in the middle of a ger district. Even there is a phrase that you can find everything except “green lamb fur and a dog hoof” referring you can find almost everything from food items to clothing, ger furniture, horse saddle, riding boots and camping equipment and so forth. For centuries, the majority of Mongolians used to sew their clothes and nowadays this tradition still lingers widely in the country. You will encounter with colorful stalls with silk, cotton and other material used for making a deal(a traditional costume). A market is a place where many whole sellers provide their supplies. Also, locals and rural nomadic herders come and trade for their daily needs. You may have look through what sort of items are needed in Mongolian’s daily life especially those who live in the countryside.

Gobi Corporation has been manufacturing luxurious cashmere garments for 38 years, with pride in quality and design. The Gobi had been operated as Government-owned for 30 years and started operating under private owners in July of 2007 when the government-owned stocks were sold.
